Rainy Days and Mondays…Vinyl Raincoat

It was Outerwear Week over at

Project Run and Play

I wasn’t quite sure if I was going to make at first… And then I decided I wanted to try to make a Raincoat… But not just in name only… I wanted to take Regular Cotton Fabric and Make it Water Proof.. What better way to do that then put VINYL on it…  I searched HIGH and LOW for this Fabric…

It’s Called Rainy Days and Mondays by Melimba & Beccabury

For

Riley Blake Fabrics

Well it was a fabric line back in 2009 and not so Easy to come by

So when I found it on Etsy I was THRILLED!!

I was even able to find a Yard of the Coordinating Grey Fabric

what a Blessing that was..

So what happens when you live in a place that NEVER rains and you are doing a RAINY DAY themed photo shoot..

Well…

You Make your Own!!!

NOW…

Only this FUN!!!!

Rainy Days would be GLORIOUS!!!

So for today!!!

So here’s a quick look at what I did to VINYLIZE this coat… If that’s even a word.. :)

I bought Iron on Vinyl by the Yard

Cutting out my Jacket Pieces first then Placing it on my Vinyl and Cutting it to the Exact size of Pattern pieces

The pieces for the Coat were big so I here was what was Going to be a pocket ( decided against it in the end.. )

Peel the Vinyl off of the Paper backing and put STICKY side down on fabric and smooth out

Using the Same paper lining put it on top of the VINYL and Iron per instructions

Remove your Paper and you have just VINYLIZED your fabric

That is adorable! I think a cheery raincoat is a must-have. And the “vinylizing”… so cool. I didn’t even know that existed! Good to know.

You are KILLING ME, Angelina! This, like all your other amazing projects, is phenomenal.

I haven’t quite made it to 1,000 (12 away), but I expect/hope to by tomorrow, so I’m going to go ahead and mention the Little Larue giveaway and then make it live for my readers once we get to 1,000.

If you want to mention it to your readers in case they want to check it out, I wouldn’t object, but you certainly don’t have to. : )

    LOVE your work, girl.

I hope I can be half as productive and cool as you are when I have five kids I’m homeschooling! ; )

Oh, I am such a chicken! I bought Laminated fabric – Tanya Whelan and J. Paganelli about a year ago and I am so afraid to use it. Even though I bought it on sale, It was still a splurge.
I would have loved to give your method a try… If only I would have known.

    Does it stay together well?
    Did you use any lining?

Ever so I love the outcome and am willing to give it a try.

Thank you for sharing and good luck with project Runway.
Glad you made it on time.

    Blessings!

Thank you Sandy for stopping in Oh don’t be afraid to use the Fabric it really is so very easy to use… Yes it actually stays together Really well and Irons out nicely … Only be sure to use Paper in between the iron and Vinyl as you can melt it with Direct contact with the iron… I did use a Lining on the Jacket front and Back and Collar but on the Sleeves I didn’t I just added Mock Cuffs…:)

That is such a great fabric for a raincoat,Angelina! Well worth tracking down. I think I have some of that vinyl for when I was going to attempt diaper changing pads for my daughter. It is still sitting on the shelf with my fabric! You always do such a great photo shoot. I don’t know which I enjoy more ~ your projects or how you show them off! : )

The fabric was only 5.00 a yard and I had a 50% off coupon at Joanns for the Vinyl so it cost about 20.00-23.00 dollars to make… But I also made it a Size 10 so It would be even cheaper for a smaller size. Thank you so much for stopping in.. :)

adorable! I need one of these! Are you going to post the pattern?
